Ardmore, Alabama Town Council Meets

The Ardmore, Alabama Town Council met on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 6:30 P.M. Mayor Eugene Shannon brought meeting to order then opened with prayer.

Present at the meeting were Mayor Shannon, Councilmen George C. “Moody” King, Billy Shannon, Mary Hobbs, Melody Duffey, Guests Laurene Schrimsher and Janice Reese, alderwomen from Ardmore, TN; Police Chief William “Doc” Oliver, Terry Barkley, superintendent of the Street Department, Maalac Steele from the Chamber of Commerce, concerned residential citizens, local businessmen and the local media.

Councilman Ricky Mitchell was not present.

The minutes were read by Darla Daly. Billy Shannon motioned that the minutes were written correctly and Mary Hobbs seconded it. All agreed.

First on the agenda was a concern by local residents and businessmen near the mobile home court on Jones Avenue. The concern is sewage seeping out, unsupervised children shooting BB guns at nearby homes and residents of the mobile home court getting out of control and engaging in illegal activities, car races, and going over the speed limit on State Line nearby at late night hours. Police Chief Oliver responded that he will talk to the owners of the trailers with Mayor Shannon agreeing to look into this immediately with Chief Oliver.

Mayor Shannon reported that he spoke with the owner of the garbage service and told him the Town of Ardmore, AL is putting the company on notice that next October the city will be taking new bids from other trash collection companies. The contract is over in November 2007.

A discussion was presented by Mayor Shannon asking Terry Barkley about getting bids on widening and re-paving Cooper Lane with revamping the sewer. There is a 4-year agenda for improvements for this area.

Terry Barkley announced that the changes for the lighting in the Ardmore, AL Town Park are ready to review.

Maalac Steele from the Chamber of Commerce announced a Blood Drive will be held in front of the Chamber office on Friday, January 12th from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Mayor Shannon asked if there was any other business that needed to be discussed. Since there was none, Billy Shannon motioned, Melody Duffey seconded, and the meeting was adjourned.
