Frances Sweeney Tracy

Frances Elizabeth Sweeney Tracy, 64, of 6th Street, Ardmore, AL, died Monday, January 8, 2007, at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, AL.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 10, at 2 p.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joel Logan officiating. Burial will be in the Gatlin Cemetery with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Frances was born June 14, 1942 in Alabama to Cleveland Sweeney, Sr. and Lila Mae Malone Sweeney. She lived most of her life in the Ardmore area. She was a member of Sweet Springs Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Tracy; a brother, Junior Sweeney.

Survivors include one son, Roger Dupree of Athens, AL; two daughters, Mae Elizabeth Green of Athens, AL, and Deborah Sweeney of New Market, AL; three granddaughters, April McMunn, Abigail Dupree and Beatrice Dupree; and two god grandsons, James George McBride and Robert McBride.


Mary Hill Yant

Mary Hill Yant, 90, of Elkton, TN, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, at SunBridge Care Facility in Ardmore.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 8 at Carr-Erwin Funeral Home. Burial was in the Giles Memory Gardens with Carr-Erwin Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Yant was the daughter of the late Robert and Mabel McNeese Hill and the widow of Johnie Wilson Yant. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Yant Young and Mary Ruth Newton; and one son, John Robert Yant.

Survivors include a son, James Loyd Yant of Prospect; daughters, Mattie Lou Davis of Elkton, Barbara Jean Gammon of Murfreesboro, Fannie Rolin of Ardmore, and Emily Ann Billings of Blanche; a brother, Rip Hill of Elkton; sisters, Louise Scott of Elkton and Elise Tiny Pratt of Pulaski; 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.


Ethel Roland

Ethel Roland, 91, of Ardmore, AL, died Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Athens-Limestone Hospital, Athens, AL.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 6, at 1 p.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sammy Brister and Rev. Steve Hargrove officiating. Burial was in the Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Ethel was born November 28, 1915, in Cullman, AL, to Joe Ben Taylor and Laura Ray Taylor. She lived in Ardmore 23 years after moving from Decatur, AL. She was of the Baptist faith and worked as an inspector for Alabama Hosiery Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Roland, and a brother, Carmon Taylor.

Survivors include one sister, Hilda (Donald) Pipkin of Sherrill, AR; and nephews, Roddy Taylor, Bob Brasher, Robert Pipkin; and niece, Paula McManus.

Pallbearers were Bob Brasher, Roddy Taylor, Gearil Smith, Roy “Turk” Reyer, Patrick Keith, and Jim Ed Keith.


Marion Laverne McWhirter

Marion Laverne McWhirter, 92, of 611 West St., Athens, AL, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Athens Convalescent Center.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 10, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Casey Harbin officiating. Burial will be in the Copeland Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in charge.

Survivors include daughters, Freida Driver and husband Curtis of New Jersey, Joann Malone and husband Mark of Athens, AL, Patricia Bridges and husband Randell of Toney, AL, and Janet Shinkunas of Athens, AL; son, Charles McWhirter and wife Patricia of Athens, AL; daughter-in-law, Rocien McWhirter of Athens, AL; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, six great-great-tgrandchildren; brothers, Billy Griffin of Athens, AL, Neal Griffin of Toney, AL, Mahlon Griffin of Arizona, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Lucas Bridges, Lee Bridges, Mike McWhirter, Chad Smith, and Jonathan Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Shinkunas and Matt Shinkunas.


Pauline Reyer Usery

Pauline Reyer Usery, 92, of Ragsdale Creek Road, Elkmont, AL, died Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at her residence.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 4, at 11 a.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Bottom officiating. Burial was in the Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Pauline Mable Reyer was born June 24, 1914 in Limestone County, AL, to Alvie Edward Reyer and Annie Bell Stafford Reyer. She lived all her life in the Elkmont area. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Usery.

Survivors include two daughters, Edna (Cecil) Eaves and Judy (Billy) Wales all of Elkmont, AL; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.


Phyllis Ann Crim

Phyllis Ann Crim, 53, of Ardmore, AL, died Tuesday, January 2, 2007, in Huntsville, AL.

A memorial service was held Thursday, January 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hazel Green with Rev. Lon Ostryzcki officiating. Hazel Green Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Crim and Herman Crim.
