Elkton Police Dept. Strives To Reduce Speeding, Accidents
Jim Stewart was hired as the city of Elkton, TN’s Chief of Police in June 2005. Mayor Ware and the city council expressed a major concern for the safety of the city’s citizens and all travelers of TN Highway 31. Chief Stewart accepted his current position with a hope to drastically reduce the amount of speeding and the number of collisions inside the Elkton city limits.
Mable Hill Hosts Blood Drive Sat.
Mable Hill Baptist Church will host a blood drive for the American Red Cross Saturday, January 27, from 10 am to 3:30 pm in the church’s fellowship hall. Mable Baptist Church is located a quarter mile east of Hwy. 53 at 3778 Ready Section Rd. Chamber Blood Drive Is Huge Success
Maalac Steele, director of the Ardmore Chamber, reported that the Ardmore Chamber Blood Drive was a great success. The expected goal was 15, but a whopping 37 Donors showed up! They ran out of almost everything including T shirts! The last few donors were treated to Crape Myrtle Festival shirts instead of LifeSouth shirts.

Ardmore’s Jim Berry Agency Receives Hands In The Community Award
Jim Berry Agency in Ardmore was recently awarded the Agency Hands in the Community Award for their commitment to volunteering in the community. Along with the award comes a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation for the Ardmore Boys & Girls Club where Tommy Starnes volunteers.

2nd Annual Red Carpet Affair Beauty Walk Set At Elkmont
The 2nd Annual Red Carpet Affair Beauty Walk will be held at Elkmont High School Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3. All competitions will be held in the Elkmont High School new gym. Students in grades kindergarten through sixth will compete on Friday, March 2, beginning at 7 p.m. Babies through preschool contestants will compete on Saturday, March 3, beginning at 2 p.m. Seventh through 12th grade contestants will compete at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 3. A “Special Edition” Division for 12th grade boys will also be held at that time. The boys will compete and be judged like the girls by the judges. Entertainment will be provided during the Beauty Walk.
Masonic Lodge Breakfast Slated
The Ardmore Masonic Lodge wiill be having their monthly eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy breakfast Saturday, January 27th at the Masonic Lodge in Ardmore.
Jr. Girls Advance
The Ardmore Junior Lady Tigers will face Tanner in the semifinals of the Limestone County Tournament at Tanner Friday at 4 p.m.
MS Tigers Beat ABS
Ardmore advanced to the semifinals of the Limestone County Tournament with a 46-15 win over Athens Bible School Saturday. The Tigers, the No. 2 seed, were scheduled to face Elkmont Tuesday in a 4 p.m. contest. A win over Elkmont would put Ardmore in the championship game at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Blanche Lady Bulldogs Record Winning Season
The Blanche Lady Bulldogs basketball team ended their regular season with a record of 11-1. The Lady Bulldogs played their last home game Thursday night, January 18, in the Bulldog gym. They defeated Stone Bridge Academy 38-27.

Entire Squad Contributes To AHS Tigers’ Success
Knowledgeable basketball fans are aware of the fact that success on the hardwood is a team effort. This has been especially true of the Ardmore Tigers this season. A solid starting five and a bench that contributes game after game has given Ardmore a reputation as a balanced team that cannot be taken lightly.

Recently the Baseball Writers of America cast their ballots for this year’s inductees into the Hall of Fame. While I agree with the selection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn, not to mention the non-selection of Mark “I’m not here to talk about the past” McGuire, I am still a bit miffed that these pundits once again overlooked Andre Dawson.
