Giles And Maury Counties Garner Two Railroad Grants
Tennessee State Representatives Joe Fowlkes (D-Cornersville) and John Charles Tidwell (D-New Johnsonville) announced last week that the state is providing two grants totaling $1,727,091 for short line railroad infrastructure improvements in Giles and Maury counties.

Officer Posey Presented With Award
Ardmore Police Officer David Posey was recently presented with an Award of Appreciation in recognition of his acts of kindness and charity in going beyond the call of duty. Posey was given the award by the Ardmore Masonic Lodge in a ceremony held on January 25, 2006.
Jeanette Rich Steps Down As Ardmore's Chamber Director
Jeanette Rich, executive director of the Ardmore, AL/TN Chamber of Commerce, has announced that she will be resigning from her post effective February 13, 2006. Rich, who has been involved for many years in both community service and business activities, will be assuming new duties as the Director of Tourism Development for Greater Limestone County.
Ethics Commission Remains Independent
In an effort to maintain objectivity and effectiveness, the Tennessee House of Representatives ended the second week of the General Assembly's special session by voting to keep the proposed state ethics commission independent from the State Registry of Election Finance.


Lady Tigers Top Clements In Tournament Action
Ardmore High School's Varsity Girls' Basketball Team rode a strong offensive effort in the second and fourth quarters to notch a key win over Clements in the Limestone County Basketball Tournament, held at Elkmont High School on January 23.
Booster Club Baseball Sign Ups Begin Saturday
Area parents are advised that the Ardmore Booster Club will begin holding sign ups for the upcoming baseball season beginning on Saturday, February 4th. Sign ups will be held in the lunchroom at Cedar Hill Elementary School.

Tigers Suffer Overtime Loss To Clements Colts
In a game marked by sluggish offense and strong defense, the Ardmore Tigers and the Clements Colts battled to a 37-37 tie at the end of regulation in quarterfinal action at the Limestone County Basketball Tournament, held last Monday night at Elkmont High School.
JV Lady Tigers Runner-up In Limestone Tourney
The Ardmore Junior Varsity Girls' Basketball Team played two very intense back-to-back games last weekend. On Friday night Ardmore defeated West Limestone 24-20 in the semi-finals, to advance to the finals on Saturday. The Lady Tigers were up against Elkmont in the championship game, a big rivalry for the two teams. Elkmont rolled past Ardmore to pick up a 50-38 win to capture the county championship. Ardmore ended their season with a winning record of 10-7.
Ardmore Quarterback Club To Sell Doughnuts
The Ardmore Quarterback Club, along with AHS football players, will be conducting a doughnut sale this Saturday, February 4. Proceeds from the sale go toward supporting the football program at Ardmore High School.

JV Tigers Fall In Semi-Final
The Ardmore Junior Varsity Boys' Basketball Team was defeated by the East Limestone Indians last Friday in the County Tournament semi-final game. The Tigers battled the Indians the entire game, but in the end came short of a victory. East defeated the Tigers 60-43 to advance to the championship game, where they defeated Tanner and were crowned champions. Ardmore ended their season with a winning record of 8-7.
Talkin' Baseball
Pitchers and catchers will report to spring training in less than a month and already Cubs' fans are in a lather. This is nothing new. A year ago in this column I discussed the ongoing frustration involved in being a supporter of the boys from the North Side.
