The Friends of the Library will have “Basket Weaving” with Linda Castle as their February Enrichment Program. Linda will be making a small rattan basket for the demonstration along with having finished baskets for display and for sale. Linda, a resident of Ardmore, has been making baskets as a hobby since 1994 and often has them in area craft shows. The Friends would like to invite the community to this free public program on February 14 at 2 p.m. in the Annex Building behind the library and also would like to encourage people to join the Friends of the Library. During February, you may come by the library to see the beautiful African treasures that Merrill Meadows has lent the library for Black History Month. In the display, you will find a basket, pictures, wood masks, bead works such as necklaces, a doll, and vase. Thanks, Merrill, for letting the library display your African purchases and thanks Martina for helping with the display. I had the privilege of attending a retirement luncheon for Giles County Public Library Director, Alice Trimble, last week with other library directors. The luncheon was heartwarming with tales of experiences being shared of the ups and downs of trying to provide adequate buildings and materials to the residents of Tennessee over the last 40 years. I know that Giles County will greatly miss the 23 years of experience that will be walking out the door with Alice. The Blue Grass Regional Library, which consists of nine middle counties in Tennessee, recognized Alice as an innovated, energetic public library director.
