Ardmore Police Chief William Oliver reported Thursday, February 1 that Officer David Posey pulled over Charles Ray Smith Tuesday night, January 30th on a speeding violation.

Posey smelled a strange smell coming from the trunk of the car. He knew something was wrong.

After calling in Charles Ray Smith’s drivers license Posey learned it had been suspended and there was an arrest warrant out for Smith for a probation violation. Posey arrested Smith then opened the trunk of the car he was driving. Smith repeatedly said it was helium but Posey could smell it was more than that. Posey quickly closed the trunk and called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
