Tigers Win One, Lose One

The Ardmore Tigers split a pair of non-area basketball tilts last week. On Tuesday the Tigers defeated Priceville 55-51 before falling at West Morgan 60-49 on Friday.

When the Ardmore Tigers hit only 4-of-17 3-point attempts that is a good indication they are having a poor shooting night. That is what happened Friday as they dropped a 60-49 decision to the Rebels at West Morgan on their senior night.

Ardmore led early 6-3 but allowed five unanswered points. They battled back to tie the score at 15-15 on a 3-pointer from Matthew Clem. The Tigers never led or tied again.

The Rebels scored 10 unanswered points, including the first two of the second quarter. Duron Robinson hit a 2-pointer to stop that run. The Rebels scored the next four points. Will Lewis outscored West Morgan 5-4 the remainder of the quarter. West Morgan led 33-22 at the mid-game break.

Micah Randolph scored the initial basket of the second half. Ardmore reeled off six unanswered points on a basket apiece from Jake Stagner, Lewis and Landon Curtis. The Rebels hit a pair of 3-pointers and the lead was back, 40-28. Robinson hit a pair of free throws before West Morgan scored five unanswered points. Lewis hit a free throw, and Robinson and James Vann Teeples a 2-pointer each before the Rebels could score. By the end of the quarter the Tigers trailed 47-34.

Clem scored eight of his game high 20 points in the fourth quarter while J.J Jones hit the only other Ardmore 3-pointer that period. The Rebels retained their lead by hitting 6-of their 15 free throw attempts that quarter while Ardmore was sent to the free throw line only once that period.

Clem and Robinson were the only double digit scorers for Ardmore, finishing with 20 and 10 respectively. Lewis finished with eight as Jones scored three. Getting two points apiece for the Tigers were Feraas Al-Saba, Teeples, Curtis and Stagner.

Ardmore 55, Priceville 51

Matthew Clem hit six consecutive free throws in the final 46.4 seconds of the Ardmore versus Priceville game to lead the Tigers to the win.

Ardmore led 49-48 when Clem began hitting his one-pointers.

Earlier that quarter, Will Lewis hit a pair of free throws to give the Tigers a comfortable 45-38 lead. The Bulldogs scored the next seven points to tie the score at 45-45.

Clem hit a 2-pointer to break the tie just before Robert Varner made a 3-point play to give the lead back to Priceville. Robinson scored for the Tigers to change the lead.

Clem hit four free throws, Varner made another 3-point play and Clem’s final two free throws assured the Tigers of the win.

Clem took game honors with 20 points as Curtis added 12. Teeples had six points for the winners as Lewis, Robinson and Stagner each scored four, Feraas Al-Saba three and TJ Duncan two.

High scoring Josh Bedwell had six points for the Bulldogs. Varner led Priceville with 15 points.
