Lady Tigers Overpower West Morgan

Ardmore High School's Varsity Girls' Basketball Team took to the hardwood with determination last Friday night, hoping to notch a win over the Lady Rebels of West Morgan for the second time this season.

The Lady Tigers were not disappointed.

Riding a balanced offensive attack and solid defensive play, the Lady Tigers emerged with an impressive 42-24 win. The victory improved Ardmore's season mark to 7-17.

Ardmore's offense blazed quickly in the first stanza as Shannon Fogg ignited a 14-2 Lady Tiger run with a trey to open the game. Julia Allen contributed by hitting two free throws, as did teammate Sara Jo Taylor. Allen added another free throw and the Lady Tigers ran up an 8-0 lead before West Morgan scored its first points on a field goal from Laurya Kilvo. Ardmore continued to play strong basketball and led 16-7 with action heading into the second period.

Both teams' defenses took over in the second stanza, with only a total of seven points being scored. The Lady Tigers netted four points on a free throw from Casey Steadman and a field goal and free throw from Fogg. Still, West Morgan could not close the gap against a stubborn Lady Tiger defense. The Lady Rebels only tallied three points before the half and trailed 10-10 at intermission.

Taylor sank two buckets from the charity stripe to ignite Ardmore's second half scoring. West Morgan put up four points before Lady Tiger Jennifer Mills drained a long trey to give Ardmore a 25-14 lead at the 5:30 mark. West Morgan closed to within six points in the final minute of the third stanza, but Gina Smith hit a shot from the charity stripe just before the buzzer to give the Lady Tigers a 26-19 lead heading into the final stanza.

Ardmore's offense exploded for 16 points in the final period while the defense held the Lady Rebels to only five points. Eight different players scored for Ardmore in the final period to seal the win for the Lady Tigers. Cassandra Atteberry and Jenifer Colbert paced the Ardmore attack with four points each in the final quarter.

Fogg led the Lady Tigers with nine points, while Colbert and Atteberry netted six points each. Taylor and Mills tallied five points each.
