Civitan To Honor Local Clergy The Ardmore, AL/TN Civitan Club will honor the community’s ministers at the Annual Civitan Clergy Night Friday, February 16. It is the tradition of Civitan International to recognize members of the clergy in commemoration of the World War II North Atlantic naval battle. An American ship, the USS Dorchester, was torpedoed by a German submarine. Aboard the sinking ship were four chaplains, two Protestant ministers, a Jewish rabbi, and a Roman Catholic priest, all of whom gave their life jackets to sailors to better the sailors’ chances of survival. The four chaplains joined arms, prayed, and went down with the ship. The local ministers and their spouses will be treated to dinner, entertainment, and fellowship in appreciation of their sacrifices and service to the community throughout the year. |
