Elkmont 6th Grader to Attend
Conference in Washington

Wes Isham, an Elkmont Middle School student, was one of many nominated to attend the Junior National Leadership Conference to be held in our Nation’s Capitol. Mrs. Tammy Hand nominated Wes for his outstanding leadership qualities in the classroom. Through the support of local businesses and donations, Wes will be spending six days in March on Capitol Hill.

Wes is the son of Lee Isham of Taft and Amanda Wilson of Ardmore, and the grandson of Charles Isham of Nashville.

Along with Wes, 249 other middle school students from across the U.S. and Canada will be attending the conference.

“The Legacy of American Leadership” is the theme of this year’s conference, which will include educational activities and presentations during Wes’ almost weeklong experience. Isham will have the opportunity to meet with elected officials as well as tour the historical D.C. area.

The Junior Youth Leadership Conference was designed to help students gain a greater sense of understanding of the role of individuals in American democracy and the responsibility of being a leader.

“The aim of the JNYLC is to inspire students to recognize their own leadership skills, measure their skills against those of current and former leaders and return home with new-found positive influence within their communities,” explained Mike Lasday, Executive Director of the Congressional Youth Leadership Counsel.
