Lady Tigers Fall At Lawrence County

The season ended for the Ardmore Lady Tigers last Thursday in Moulton when the Lawrence County Red Devils stopped the Lady Tigers 71-49.

The Lady Red Devils had four seniors in the starting lineup and began to pull away from the Lady Tigers late in the opening quarter.

Ardmore had pulled within three, 15-12, on a Brittany Miles basket just before four different players scored for Lawrence County in an 8-0 run. Miles and Courtney Pettus scored the final two baskets for Ardmore to make the score 23-17.

Lawrence County outscored Ardmore 8-2 in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Hailey Drake scored four unanswered points for the Lady Tigers before Lawrence County scored the next 11 points. An Aarika Boggs free throw ended that run. Lawrence County led 42-24 after two quarters of action.

Shea Mason scored the first eight points of the third quarter for the winners as they outscored Ardmore 16-8. In the fourth quarter Lauren Atchley scored eight of Ardmore’s 17 points that quarter. The Lady Tigers limited the Lady Red Devils to 13 points three of those from the charity stripe.

Drake led Ardmore with 13 points as Ashley scored 11 and Miles eight. Pettus finished with five points for the Lady Tigers as Jennifer Mills had four, Boggs three while Shannon Fogg and Elizabeth Hodges each scored two.

Sallie Burch led the winners with 18, Nakia McDaniel 16 and Mason 13.

The Lady Red Devils advance to Wallace State to face defending champion Deshler in a Thursday contest.
