For the fourth year juniors at Lincoln County High School (LCHS) have the opportunity to participate in Career Day sponsored by the Fayetteville Rotary Club and held at the Motlow State Community College Fayetteville Center. This year’s event will be held Tuesday, March 6. Twenty-five career areas will be presented, including engineering, athletic trainer, physical therapy, nurse, veterinarian, automotive and diesel mechanic, lawyer, cosmetologist, agricultural careers, teacher, psychology/counseling, accounting and bookkeeping, architecture, game and fish warden, allied health careers, law enforcement/criminal justice, entertainer, artist/commercial art, physician, auto body repair, business careers, construction trades, pharmacist, computer careers, pilot/aerospace careers. Members of the Rotary Club have secured representatives for the twenty-five careers. Mike Russell, director of the Motlow Fayetteville Center, and his staff have organized the program so that each junior will have the opportunity to hear three of the representatives of their choosing. On March 6, all juniors will assemble in the Adnia Rice Theater at LCHS to hear keynote speaker Leslie Dean, who was an outstanding basketball player and Student Government President at Motlow. She graduated Cum Laude from Motlow in 2004 with an emphasis in mass communication. Then students will board buses to be transported to the Motlow Fayetteville Center to attend three thirty-five minute sessions to learn about careers from guest speakers and ask questions about their careers of interest. Students will return to LCHS for lunch. Scholarship information announced this week include the following: The Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Scholarship is in guidance. Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and financial need. Deadline date is April 4, 2007. The Fayetteville Lions Club sponsors two scholarships for seniors. The Era P. Jones Memorial Scholarship is for sons, daughters, or grandchildren of Fayetteville Lions Club members. Students must have a 2.5 grade-point average (GPA) or higher. The Fayetteville Lions Club Academic Scholarship is for any senior who has a 2.5 GPA or better. Two letters of recommendation are required. Both scholarships are due in guidance April 4, 2007. The McGee Livestock Farms Scholarship is for seniors who are a member of the LCHS Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter and who plan to seek a degree in some area of agriculture. Applications must be turned in to Mrs. Dawn Malone in the agriculture department or to Mrs. Carol Cooper in guidance by April 4. The David “Smooth” Stovall Scholarship is available in guidance for a student who plans to continue education/training in the field of auto mechanics or auto body repair. April 4, 2007, is the deadline. A new scholarship is being given in memory of Gail Hutto. The Gail Hutto Nursing Scholarship is for a student going into the nursing field. One requirement is the students must have completed the Health Occupation class at LCHS. Applications must be returned to guidance by April 4. Information and applications are in guidance for juniors who are interested in attending a Military Service Academy. Information also is available for the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar.
