Tigers Stop Red Devils by Perry Lewter The Ardmore Tiger baseball teams stopped the Elkmont Red Devils 10-6 in a come-from-behind win at East Limestone Saturday in a preseason tournament. Ardmore dropped their season opener to West Limestone 9-8, fell to Athens 11-1, stopped Elkmont 10-6 before falling to Clements 4-2. Ardmore 10, Elkmont 6 The Ardmore Tigers picked up their initial win of the season in the East Limestone Invitational Baseball Tournament Saturday by defeating Elkmont 10-6. Trailing 6-0 the winners scored a single run in the fourth, five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth while holding Elkmont scoreless those frames. Zach Mitchell had a homerun for the winners while Eric Atchley hit a 2-run triple. Kyle Smith had a pair of base hits and Will Lewis one for the winners. Jake Marlow pitched the first inning for Ardmore before Clint Carroll, who was credited with the win, closed out the contest. The Red Devils started Chance Newby who gave way to Jon Schrmisher in the fifth. Schrimsher was relieved by Matt Vaughn. Justin Marshall hit a double and single for the Red Devils. Schrimsher had a double for Elkmont as Newby and Tom Logan had a base hit apiece. The Red Devils scored one in the first, one in the second and four in the third. Clements 4, Ardmore 2 The Ardmore Tigers hammered out nine hits including a home run and single from Eric Atchley in a 4-2 loss to Clements on Saturday. The winners had just one hit, a single from Jesse Cobb, but took advantage of one walk and a pair of errors. Clements’ Cobb and Sean Bachelor scored in the fourth and Michael Moss in the fifth to give the Colts a 3-0 lead. Clay Wales scored for the Tigers in the fifth while Jeremy Craig scored for the winners in the sixth. Matthew Smith hit a pair of singles for the Tigers. Getting on hit each for Ardmore were Will Lewis, Wales, Jake Marlow and Jarrod Mullins. Athens 11, Ardmore 1 Details from the Athens versus Ardmore game was not available for the paper. West Limestone 9, Ardmore 8 The West Limestone Wildcats pushed across a pair of runs in the seventh to a 9-8 win over Ardmore in their opening game of the East Limestone Preseason Tournament. Clint Carroll was on the hill for the Tigers while Fleming pitched for the Wildcats. Ryne Strong and Clay Wales had a pair of singles apiece for the Tigers. Hitting a single apiece were Zach Mitchell, Will Lewis, Eric Atchley, Matthew Smith and Jarrod Mullins. Colton Hill hit a homerun for the winners as Justin Meeks had three singles and Blake Moffat hit a single and double. The Tigers will be at home Thursday and Friday. The home opener will be against West Limestone. The varsity opener begins at 4:30 p.m. On Friday the Tigers will entertain Clements with the same start time. Junior varsity contests will follow after each contest. |
