Ardmore City Council Meets

The City of Ardmore, Tennessee met in regular session March 1st and opened with a word of prayer and unanimous approval of last month’s minutes and expenditures.

Present at the meeting were Aldermen Ken Crosson, Raymond Crabtree, Tim McConnell, Janice Reece, Garon Hargrove and Laurene Schrimsher; Police Chief Doc Oliver, Fire Chief Tim Toone, City Recorder Mary Prier, and Street Superintendent Terry Barkley along with distinguished guests and media.

First on the agenda was a report on the bids for the football/soccer fields to be built. The city received three bids, but any project costing over $35,000 that will be supported by a grant must be contracted to a state certified contractor. Bids on the field project will again be accepted until March 12th.

Next was the option of leasing out the park, and after the explanation of the responsibilities of each party, Alderman McConnell made a motion to approve the lease of the ball field and concession stand. The motion was seconded by Laurene Schrimsher and passed unanimously.

Alderman Crabtree stated that a 200x200 piece of property would be donated by Clayton Homes for the benefit of both the city and the town of Ardmore. The pad will consist of an 80x80 concrete platform that must meet specifications. A motion was made by Alderman Hargrove to accept the property and approve the surveying and construction. The motion was seconded by Alderman McConnell and passed with no opposition.

The last item on the agenda was the opening of bids for the City Hall construction. Two bids were brought before the board and the decision was made to convene a committee to interview the contractors and confirm the compliance of specs for the building.

Motion to adjourn was made and passed unanimously.
