Scholarships announced this week include the following:
The Fayetteville Education Association Maurice Ellis Scholarship is for seniors who have attended the Fayetteville City schools for at least 5 years. Requirements include two letters of recommendations and an essay. Deadline is March 31, 2006.
The Beta Kappa Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society offers a scholarship for a senior pursuing a major in education. Applications must be returned to the guidance office by April 6, 2006.
To celebrate their 100th Anniversary, Coca-Cola Bottling Works of Tullahoma will be awarding a one-year $2,500 scholarship to Motlow State Community College to a qualified senior of Lincoln County High School. To be eligible the senior must have an admissions application on file at Motlow, have a record of leadership activities or community service activities, and have a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0.
Applications must be given to Mrs. Cooper by April 6, 2006.
The Boonshill/ Unity Family and Community Education (FCE) Scholarship is available for seniors who attended Unity School. The deadline is April 7, 2006.
Seniors pursuing a degree in nursing can apply for the Teresa M. "Terri" Gentry Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Applicants must have a 2.5 or better GPA and must write a 500-word essay. April 10, 2006, is the deadline.
The Ardmore AL/TN Chamber of Commerce sponsors a scholarship for Ardmore-area students living within a 10- mile radius of Ardmore. Selection will be based upon a combination of GPA, SAT/Act scores, financial need, awards, activities, honors, community service, essay, and interview. Application must be returned to Mrs. Cooper by April 11, 2006.
Tennessee Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (TATFACS) sponsors a scholarship for seniors who plan to major in Family and Consumer Sciences and become a teacher or major in a related career area such as culinary arts, fashion design, restaurant management, etc. Applicants must submit a resume, two letters of recommendation, and a photo. Proof of acceptance at a college or university must be included with the application. Applications must be mailed to the Scholarship Committee and received by April 15, 2006.
Alabama-Tennessee Trail of Tears Corridor Association, Inc., is awarding scholarships to students of Native American descent. The students must demonstrate successful academic performance and financial need. Students must provide evidence of enrollment in a Federal or State-recognized tribe or be able to verify at least 1/16 Native American heritage. Applicants must submit a transcript, a cover letter expressing how this scholarship will help, and a letter of recommendation from tribe or school official. The winner will be required to contribute 30 volunteer hours for the Trail of Tears Commemoration & Motorcycle Ride or with the tribe of the student's affiliation. Deadline is Friday, April 28, 2006.
