Ardmore High School's Junior Varsity Baseball Team took to the diamond last Thursday, taking on the visiting Junior Red Devils from Elkmont. Both games were spirited contests.
Elkmont prevailed in Game One by a score of 10-8, but showing grit and determination, the Junior Tigers rallied to take Game Two by a score of 13-12.
In Game One, the visitors jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. Ardmore scored its first run in the second inning when Clint Carroll led off with a single and stole second. Carroll later scored on a fielder's choice.
The Junior Tigers pushed across three more runs in the third inning as Alex Lucky, Jake Marlow, Landon Boggs and Carroll all got hits and scored. Lucky nailed a solid single to centerfield, then stole two bases to ignite the rally. Marlow and Carroll drilled back-to-back doubles and Boggs added a single.
Elkmont scored two runs in the fifth inning and exploded for four more runs in the sixth. Ardmore scored three in the fifth and pushed across a later run, but it was too little, too late.
Elkmont started Game Two just like Game One, scoring four quick runs to take an early lead. Ardmore responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. Lucky again ignited the rally by reaching base on a Red Devil error and stealing second. Jeffery Boyce was hit by a pitch and both Boyce and Lucky scored on a double by Zach Mitchell. Mitchell later scored on a fielder's choice.
Elkmont erupted for five more runs in the second inning and added another run in the top of the third to take a commanding 10-3 lead, heading into the bottom of the third.
Preston Fogg led off the third with a single, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Fogg scored on a sacrifice fly by Clint Carroll.
Elkmont pushed across two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up by a score of 12-4. Ardmore exploded, scoring six runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within two runs, 12-10.
Ardmore scored again in the fifth when Lucky singled and later scored on an Elkmont error.
Trailing by a run, 12-11, the Junior Tigers notched the 13-12 win by scoring twice in the final inning.
