Ardmore Lady Tigers Win Gulf Shores Tournament

The Varsity Lady Tigers Softball Team traveled to Orange Beach lat weekend to play in the Gulf Shores High School Invitational Tournament. Ardmore went undefeated in the tournament, as they picked up seven wins to capture a tournament championship for the second time. Ardmore brought in several big wins in pool play, before beginning the single elimination play on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers picked up two big wins in tournament play, before advancing to the championship game. Ardmore beat the undefeated, home standing, Gulf Shores Lady Dolphins 2-0 to walk away with a 1st place trophy.

Ardmore began pool play action on Friday afternoon, with a 3-2 victory over Benjamin Russell. The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Jada Norton reached base on a bunt and later scored on a single hit by Shannon Fogg.

Ardmore picked up another run in the top of the fourth. Casey Steadman hit a double and scored when Sara Jo Taylor reached base on a fielder's choice. Benjamin Russell tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Wildcats pulled through with two hits, and along with an error from Ardmore, resulted in two runs.

game went into extra innings, with the International tie breaker in effect. Shannon Fogg was placed on second base and scored when Steadman bunted the ball and reached base on an error. The Lady Tigers defense was able to keep the Lady Wildcats from scoring to end the game with a 3-2 win.

Casey Steadman picked up the pitching win for Ardmore, with Amber Wise serving as the catcher. Steadman struck out nine batters, walked one, and allowed five hits.

Ardmore 6

University 2

The Lady Tigers racked up six hits against the University Lady Bucs, to pick up a 6-2 win. Each of the Lady Bucs runs were scored after batters reached base on a walk and a single, and later scored on a wild pitch.

Casey Steadman led the Lady Tigers in hits with a double and a single, while Aarika Boggs hit a triple. Other hitters were Melissa Sharp, Shannon Fogg, and Sara Jo Taylor each with a single.

Boggs picked up the pitching win for Ardmore, striking out two batters, walking four, and allowing only one hit. Shannon Fogg closed the game for Ardmore by striking out a batter and depending on the defense to make an out. Amber Wise served as catcher, while Kayla Martin caught the final inning of play.

Leroy 0

The Lady Tigers shut out Leroy 14-0 on Saturday morning. Ardmore continued to pull through with the bats as they racked up nine hits. Casey Steadman pitched a no-hitter for Ardmore, striking out six batters and walking one. Callie Steadman pitched the last inning for the Lady Tigers, striking two batters, walking zero, and allowing no hits.

Leading Ardmore in hits was Casey Steadman with a homerun and a double, along with Amy collier with two singles. Other hitters for Ardmore were Shannon Fogg with a triple, Jada Norton, Callie Steadman, Aarika Boggs, and Megan Brown with a single each.

Ardmore 10 Monroe County 0

Aarika Boggs pitched a no-hitter for Ardmore, as the Lady Tigers defeated Monroe County 10-0 in the final game of pool play on Saturday morning. Boggs also led Ardmore in hits with three singles. Other hitters for Ardmore were Callie Steadman with a double, Amber Wise, Casey Steadman, Candace Mills, Amy Collier, Krystal Thornton, and Jennifer Ratley with a single each. Boggs struck out eight batters and walked two. Amber Wise was the catcher.

Jackson 5

The Lady Tigers began the single elimination play in good fashion, as they defeated Jackson High School 13-5 to advance to the semi-finals. Ardmore continued to follow through with the bats, as they picked up twelve hits.

Leading hitters for Ardmore were Melissa Sharp, Shannon Fogg, Amber Wise, and Amy Collier with two singles each. Other big hitters were Brittney Brown and Jennifer Ratley with a double each, while Jada Norton and Callie Steadman each hit a single.

Casey Steadman took the pitching win for Ardmore, striking out five batters, walking zero, and permitting no hits. Aarika Boggs closed the game for the Lady Tigers, striking out three batters, walking three, and allowing one hit. Amber Wise was behind the plate.

Casey Steadman pitched a two hitter against Benjamin Russell in the semi-final game, to aid the Lady Tigers in a 2-0 victory. Ardmore scored both runs in the top of the first inning of play. Shannon Fogg reached base on an error and Casey Steadman reached on a single. Both runners scored on a double hit by Sara Jo Taylor.

The Lady Tigers played very impressive defense to keep the Lady Wildcats from scoring. In the bottom of the second inning, with two outs, and the bases loaded, Fogg threw a runner out at first base to end the inning for Ardmore. The Lady Tigers had a few other close calls, but their defense proved to be strong.

Other hitters for Ardmore were Callie Steadman with a double, Shannon Fogg, Casey Steadman, and Amy Collier with a single each. Casey Steadman took the win from the mound for Ardmore, striking out eight batters, walking three, and only giving up two hits. Amber Wise was the catcher.

Gulf Shores 0

The Lady Tigers took on the home standing, undefeated, Gulf Shores Lady Dolphins in the championship game on Saturday night. Casey Steadman and Aarika Boggs combined their pitching with impressive defense, to pull out a no-hitter against the Lady Dolphins.

Ardmore scored their first run in the top of the third inning. Jennifer Ratley reached base on an error and substitute runner, Kayla Martin, scored on a passed ball at home. The Lady Tigers repeated this play in the top of the fourth inning, when Casey Steadman hit a single and substitute runner, Brittney Brown, scored on a passed ball at home. Ardmore had several close calls on defense, as Gulf Shores continually left runners on base, but the Lady Tigers defense held strong. Ardmore was able to hold onto a 2-0 lead for the remainder of the game.

Pulling through with hits for Ardmore were Melissa Sharp, Sara Jo Taylor, and Callie Steadman with a single each. Aarika Boggs opened the game pitching for Ardmore, striking out one batter, walking zero, and allowing zero hits. Casey Steadman closed out the game for Ardmore, taking the win, striking out eight batters, walking five, and permitting zero hits. Amber Wise was the catcher for the champions.
