Town of Ardmore, AL Meets by Justin Rudolph Ardmore, AL Mayor Gene Shannon called the council meeting to order on March 12. Present at the meeting were Mayor Shannon, Town Clerk Darla Daly, Chief of Police Doc Oliver, Street Superintendent Terry Barkley, Fire Chief Tim Toone, Councilmen Billy Shannon, Mary Hobbs, Ricky Mitchell, Melody Duffey and Moody King with guests and media. Last month’s minutes were approved to stand as typed. First item of business was to review an application of variance for additions Scotty Faulk wants to build on his property that already contains storage buildings. Town ordinances state that buildings must be constructed 35 ft. from the property line. Faulk asked the board for a variance to allow him to build another building as close to the line as 10 ft. After his explanation and with letters of approval from both adjoining property owners, Councilwoman Duffey made a motion to grant Faulk’s requests. The motion was seconded by Councilman King and passed unanimously. Street Superintendent Terry Barkley gave an update of the roads that need paving the most in town. He stated that he had three suggestions: 3rd Ave., the alley that runs East and West between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, and a portion of Cooper Lane. Councilman Shannon made a motion for Barkley to get bids on all repairs and decisions would be voted on at next month’s meeting. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Hobbs and passed unanimously. Barkley also gave an update on remodeling the lights at the town’s park. Councilman Shannon made a motion to allow the Street Dept. to fix and update the lights. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Hobbs and passed unanimously. The council received a letter from Montgomery, AL stating that the town must update its ordinance for Flood Damage and Prevention in Flood Zones in Ardmore. The only changes to be made are an update of the language and the format of the ordinance for records in Montgomery. The last item on the agenda was to approve the business at the last Joint Council Meeting. The motion was made by Councilman Shannon, seconded by Councilwoman Hobbs and passed unanimously. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. |
