Morrow Honored At Annual Boys & Girls Club Dinner

The eighth annual Boys & Girls Club Dinner was held Thursday evening, March 15, at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Ardmore. Tommy Starnes, president of the Ardmore Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors, welcomed the guests and introduced Master of Ceremonies Bro. Steve Hargrove, pastor of the Community Baptist Church.

The Ardmore Police Reserves presented the colors and Katie Roberts sang the national anthem. Bro. Steve Hargrove gave the invocation before dinner was served to a large crowd.

Entertainment was provided by Katie Roberts and Lee Hodges. Brandi Bottom, the Ardmore Youth of the Year, also addressed the crowd.

The Doris Daly Helping Hand Award was presented by Board President Tommy Starnes and Board Member Janice Reece. This year’s recipient is Brenda Morrow. The Helping Hand Award has been presented in the past to those who gave tirelessly of themselves to promote the Boys and Girls Club. The award was renamed last year in honor of the late Doris Daly who was a great supporter of the club. Morrow, a close friend of Daly, had worked alongside her on many projects in the past and continues to carry on her enthusiasm for the club.

Several donations were received by Bill Morrow on behalf the Boys and Girls Club from businesses and individuals attending the dinner. Appreciation was expressed to the many supporters of the Boys and Girls Club throughout the community.

Mickey Fowler and the staff of Fowler Auction brought the evening to a lively end when several items were auctioned to the highest bidder. Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn items were among the favorites of the crowd, however, the home baked goods were not far behind in the bidding. Several items were also included in a silent auction.

This year’s dinner and auction is the most profitable ever for the Ardmore Boys and Girls Club. Board members expressed their thanks and appreciation for the continued support from the businesses and individuals in the area.
