Elkton City Meeting Held by Justin Rudolph Elkton, TN Mayor Bill Ware called the scheduled March meeting to order on March 8, and Brother Dennis Cleveland led the council in a word of prayer. Present at the meeting were Mayor Ware, City Recorder Margie Brooks, Police Chief Stewart, Aldermen Blade, Whitfield, Turner, and Wilburn, with city Attorney Joe Fowlkes, guests and media. The minutes of the February meeting and all expenditures were read and approved as typed. Assistant Fire Chief Payton Blade stated in his report that Michael McDonald would donate the sinks and counters for the new fire hall. Mayor Ware asked the board to consider a clean-up day for the city in April, and also that with the “weather getting nice”, Home Depot would be ready to start repairs in the park soon. Bids for the septic tank for the new fire hall were read and Frank’s Backhoe Service was chosen with a low bid of $3,970. A motion to approve the bid was made by Alderman Turner and seconded by Alderman Blade. The motion passed 4/0. The first meeting of the newly instated Amend the Charter Committee will be scheduled soon. Members of the committee are Beverly Turner, Doug Turner, Payton Blade, Jim Stewart and Frances Suddarth. Alderman Turner made a motion to allow City Attorney Joe Fowlkes to sue any persons who owe any bad debts to the city. The motion was seconded by Alderman Blade and passed unanimously. The motion to pay Waste Management $1,654 from the general fund for old invoices from January and February 2006 was made by Alderman Turner, seconded by Alderman Wilburn and passed 4/0. Mayor Ware made the announcement that Alderman Turner would be the chairman of the Annexation Committee. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. |
