Kyle Helton Seeks Election

by Dwight Turner

Kyle Helton, a 17-year veteran of law enforcement, has announced that he will seek election to the office of Giles County Sheriff. Helton is currently an officer with the Pulaski Police Department, assigned to Giles County High School as the School Resource Officer.

Honored as Officer of the Year in 1995 by the Pulaski Exchange Club, Helton has completed numerous schools, including officer training for D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and school resource and field training. Other instruction has concentrated on domestic violence, leadership and management skills, DUI enforcement, sniper school, gangs and various types of personal training.

Helton believes his extensive training and field experience as a law enforcement officer, coupled with nine years of service in the Tennessee National Guard, has prepared him to assume the duties of Giles County Sheriff.

"I am not afraid of work, and I am willing to do what it takes to get this job done as sheriff," Helton said. "I feel that honesty is always the best policy. If given the opportunity as sheriff, I will be a sheriff that the people of Giles County will be proud to have as their representative in law enforcement."

One of the candidate's concerns for the Giles County Sheriff's Department is the loss of much needed income going to other counties for the housing of state prisoners.

Helton further states that he would like to seek grant monies to aid in various aspects of law enforcement, rather than burden taxpayers.

Helton added that he would like to strengthen the reserve officer program to add manpower to the department.

Another improvement the Helton said would be beneficial is the implementation of programs for the senior citizens of Giles County, such as the TRIAD program.

A 1981 graduate of Richland High School, Helton is the son of Bill and Netty Helton of the Rose Hill community.

He is married to the former Tammy Boatright. They have two children, Hannah and Hollis.

The Heltons reside on their farm in the Lynnville area and are members of the Odd Fellows Hall Church of Christ.

While continuing his duties with the Pulaski Police Department, Helton said he and his supporters plan to visit every community of Giles County to meet and hear the concerns of the people.

"I encourage the citizens to contact me with their concerns and suggestions throughout this campaign and beyond," Helton said.
