Toney UMC Offers Free Oil
Change, Safety Check Sat.

In keeping with Christ's teaching that we should be of service to members of our community, members of the Toney United Methodist Church are offering a free oil change and 10-point safety check this Saturday, April 1.

This is no April Fool's joke. Those desiring the oil change and safety inspection can register by calling the church office at 256-859-1073. Organizers of the event ask that interested parties register by Thursday, March 30.

"People may think there is a catch to this, but there is no catch," said Joe Williams, a member of Toney United Methodist Church. "We are doing this as a service to the community. No one will be asked for a donation and there

will be no basket or bucket where people can put money. The oil change and safety inspection is free."

According to Williams, the event is especially aimed at underprivileged members of the community that might not otherwise be able to have the oil changed in their automobiles or have a safety inspection.

"If someone doesn't need an oil change, they can still come by and get a safety inspection and a free car wash," added Williams. "Again, no donation will be required. We are calling ourselves `God's Pit Crew' and are offering this for free. This is our first year, so we don't know exactly what to expect."

Williams added that O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Madison has donated rags and a supply of oil dry to the church and has given a significant discount on the purchase of oil and oil filters.

Again, Williams requested that those interested in participating in the event pre-register in order to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic in and out of the site and alleviate long waits for those participating.
