Lauren Graviet Will Cheer
For Alabama Crimson Tide

Ardmore High School senior Lauren Graviet knew the competition would be tough going into last week's selection process for members of the 2006-2007 University of Alabama Cheerleading Squad.

Still, Graviet was not deterred or overwhelmed.

Competing against 68 girls who were vying for spots on the Tide Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleading Squads, Graviet moved through the tryout clinics and competitions, surviving each successive round of cuts.

In the end, Graviet was one of eight girls selected for the Junior Varsity Cheerleading Squad.

"I am really excited to have made it through the cuts and to have been selected for the squad," said Graviet. "Alabama is a really good program to be in and I know I will learn a lot. I am looking forward to next year."

Graviet, who has been a member of the Ardmore High School Cheerleading Squad since seventh grade and is currently Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, will be very busy at Alabama.

"Our squad will be cheering at all home football games, at women's basketball games and gymnastic events," continued Graviet. "We will also be cheering at volleyball games and at various alumni events."

Graviet also expressed her gratitude for her years of experience at Ardmore High School and all that she has learned while cheering for the Tigers.

"I wouldn't have been able to do anything if I had not been so involved here at Ardmore High School," said Graviet. "I have learned a lot from Ms. Clem and she should also get a lot of the credit."

In addition to her cheerleading activities, Graviet has been involved in numerous other extra-curricular activities at AHS including Spanish Club, FCA, and the Math Club. Graviet is also a very active member of Wooley Springs Baptist Church.

Lauren is the daughter of Tammy and Greg Smith and Tony and Sherri Graviet.
