Seniors have been reminded of responsibilities and deadlines to meet in preparation for graduation. Number one priority for all seniors is making the required grades to graduate and to meet scholarship requirements. Some seniors are currently failing classes they must have to graduate. One parent letter has been sent already from Mr. Jim Stewart, principal, to inform parents of students who are failing. A second letter is being sent based on grades after the midterm progress reports. In addition, seniors who want to get the Hope Lottery Scholarship must have a 3.0 grade-point average at the end of this semester to qualify or have a 21 on the ACT. Students have been reminded of these requirements.

Some seniors have failed classes they must make up in Credit Recovery. The deadline for completing Credit Recovery courses this semester is Friday, May 11, 2007. The computer lab is open each morning Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. and in the afternoon Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Credit Recovery will be available this summer for mathematics, English, science, and social studies classes; the cost will be $100 per course.

Another major concern for students, especially seniors, is the loss of credit in classes with excessive absences. If students have 15 or more absences (excused or unexcused) in a semester for a full credit class or 7 absences (excused or unexcused) in a one-half credit class, they may lose credit for the class even though they have made a passing grade. An appeal can be made to the school attendance review committee. This committee will meet Monday, May 14, at 3:00 p.m. Students must sign up with Mr. Louis Thompson, assistant principal, to be placed on the agenda. Students should be accompanied by an adult and bring documentation explaining the absences. Students and adults will gather in the Commons Area, sign-in, and be called to guidance individually for the meeting.

Campus Outreach Opportunity Learning (COOL) forms and report also are due from seniors who are enrolled in the program by Friday, May 11, 2007. Students who do not return the form and report will receive an unsatisfactory grade and no credit for the class. Form and report should be brought to guidance.

Final transcript forms are available for seniors to let guidance know where they plan to attend college in the fall. Final transcripts will not be sent unless students have completed this form and have left it in guidance. Students will not get final acceptance from colleges unless the final transcript is on file at the college.

A notebook is available in guidance for seniors to list the scholarships they are receiving. Seniors are responsible for letting guidance know through this notebook this information. The information listed in the notebook is what will be announced Awards Day on May 11 and printed in the graduation program.

Seniors who have a 93 or above rank average will receive a gold tassel to wear for graduation. Students will be notified when to pick these up in guidance.

An urgent reminder for students is the testing schedule for May 1 through May 4. The testing schedule for Gateway tests is Tuesday, May 1, Math Gateway (Algebra 1); Wednesday, May 2, Language Arts (English 10); Thursday, May 3, Science (Biology). End-of-course testing schedule includes Physical Science, May 3; American History, May 4, first block, and Foundations 2, May 4, second block.
