AARP Driving Refresher Course
Offered May 7 & 8

An AARP Driving Refresher Course is being offered for drivers over the age of 50 at the TN City Annex in Ardmore on May 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The course is sponsored by Piggly Wiggly of Ardmore and is to show mature drivers how their bodies have changed. The course has its own textbook full of new and improved ways for mature drivers to handle themselves more carefully on the roads.

The new updated curriculum addresses topics such as: How overall fitness affects driving; Important strategies for staying crash-free; Challenges of city vs. rural driving; Tips for highway driving and driving with trucks, buses and other large vehicles; Understanding a vehicle’s safety features and new vehicle technology; Tips for trying other transportation options; and Warning signs of unsafe driving.

Course instructor Chan Harris explained things that the class would cover; for instance, no longer is the 10 and 2 position of holding the steering wheel the correct way to control your motor vehicle because of air bag deployment. Harris also stated that the book would show and explain how to improve driving skills for drivers with slowed reaction times.

Harris also stated that taking the course would improve most drivers’ insurance bills.

The cost for the course is a $10 registration fee. Only the first 30 applicants will be accepted. To register call Chan Harris at 931-363-0202.
