Police Memorial Day Slated For May 16th by Dwight Turner Area residents are invited to the annual Police Memorial Day ceremony, to be held on Wednesday, May 16 at 10 AM. The ceremony, which pays tribute to police officers, both active and retired, as well as those who have fallen in the line of duty, will take place at the Ardmore Police Department. Guest Speaker at this year’s ceremony will be Chief Rick Singleton of the Florence Police Department. Singleton holds a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama and has had many years of specialized training. He has served as Florence Police Chief since 1996 and has garnered numerous prestigious honors over the years. Singleton was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Florence Jaycees in 1976 and Outstanding Shoals Area Law Enforcement Officer in 1987. In 1989, Singleton was selected as an Outstanding Young Man of America. Refreshments will be served following the Police Memorial Day ceremony. |
