Russell To Run For Mayor

Lenden Russell, a Giles County native, has announced that he will run for the office of Mayor of Elkton, TN. The Elkton election will be held in August 2006.

“Recently I have been noticing some changes at home and they are not what I would call positive,” said Russell in announcing his candidacy. “While I read about progress and improvements in the local newspaper, I have to stop and ask myself how different it is than when I was a kid. Now I am asking you to stop, look and ask, ‘How different is it?’ Go to the city park, as I did, and take a look around and ask just how different is it from 25 years ago. Shockingly, after 25 years, I can only observe a field of grass, freshly cut, thanks to Marie.”

Russell additionally expressed concern over Elkton’s business climate.

“At one time, Elkton had 25 businesses, including four restaurants and a bank,” said Russell. “Now we are down to eight. Maybe I’m not counting right these days, but we have two restaurants, no bank, and an ever increasing need to fund our schools, protect our environment, clean our water and provide basic services for our community.”

Russell went on to express his love for the community of Elkton.

“I have long ago developed a kindred spirit for the place I call home,” said Russell. “I grew up working and playing in Giles County and fishing in the Elk River, and enjoying the Christian fellowship of my Elkton neighbors.

As an adult, I have worked as a sanitation engineer, served as Elkton Chief of Police and am a long-standing member of the Church of Christ.”

“I have finally had enough, and believe it is time for a change; a positive change,” concluded Russell.
