I had a good Mother’s Day with lunch in the home of Calvin and Anita Faulkner. Attending were Karla and Daryl Williamson of Pulaski, Leigh Ann Bradley with children Case and Jordan, Stacy and Beth Faulkner with daughters Emily and Kelsey, my sons Robert and Ray Ferguson. There was only one grandson-in-law unable to attend. We missed the rain last Thursday, however we received 8/10” of rain Friday afternoon. Moisture didn’t last long because the neighbor was tilling in his watermelon patch Saturday afternoon. Robert’s garden is looking nice, but it will take a regular rains to help it produce. The Oak Grove Homemakers Club met at the clubhouse on Wednesday, May 9 for their monthly meeting and annual clubhouse cleaning. Eight members were present and two men to assist with the cleaning. A lot of work had been done the day before by several men who gathered. President Jeanette Davis called the meeting to order and gave the thought “An ounce of example is worth a pound of preachment” Due to illness Joyce Shawn was unable to lead in the devotional. The Homemakers creed was recited followed by the pledge to the U.S. Flag. Secretary Mary Ann Jacobs called roll and read the minutes to last month’s meeting. Treasurer Clara Bumpus gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved as read. Business: The May project was lap throws and bibs for nursing home use. Several were turned in, however due to the meeting being moved up a week, several were not completed. Pillows and turbans for cancer patents is the June project. The ladies are encouraged to present crafts to enter in the June Council meeting to show and be judged. Mrs. Jacobs presented the program giving the history of the Ronald McDonald Houses. She told about the ones in Nashville and Birmingham and how useful they are to families with members in the hospitals there. What prompted the founder to start these houses was seeing people sleeping everywhere in the hospitals. Ronald McDonald houses give them a place to get rest and remain near their loved ones. The next regular meeting is the third Wednesday, June 20, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the clubhouse. Visitors and new members are welcome. To all on the sick lists, I hope you feel better soon.
