Summer School 2007 Set

Pre-registration for Limestone County summer school will be on May 31st from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Students may also register the morning of June 1, but any time spent registering on Friday will be deducted from the eight hours they are allowed to miss during summer school.

Once again hosted by Tanner High School, summer school for the Limestone County School system will run from June 1, 2007 until June 29, 2007. Classes will be in session every Monday through Friday from 7:50 a.m. until 3:50 p.m.

Students should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and have a registration form signed by their school principal or counselor. Registration forms may be obtained at the local school or downloaded from www.lcsk12.org which is the website of the Limestone County School System.

Limestone County School students will be charged $250. An extra $50 fee will be charged for students from other school systems. Students who have failed one or more parts of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam may also take a Skills Lab class at summer school for only $10.00. The Skills Lab class helps prepare students to pass the parts of the exam they have failed.

Any student failing a core course during the school year is encouraged to speak with their counselor to discuss attending summer school.

Limestone county schools will switch from a block schedule to a seven period day schedule this fall. Classes last the duration of the school year on a seven period day schedule which makes it more difficult to take a failed class the next school year and still stay on track for graduation. Year long classes increase the importance for students who fail a core class to attend summer school and make up a failed course.

All summer school students will be offered breakfast and lunch at no cost. All children 18 years of age or younger living in Limestone County or Athens City will also be able to eat a free breakfast and lunch at Tanner High School beginning at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. each weekday morning.

Questions concerning summer school may be directed to the Summer School Principal, Tommy Hunter.

Mr. Hunter may be e-mailed at Tommy.hunter@lcsk12.org or by calling Elkmont High School at 732-4291.
