Talkin' Baseball
In past years, whenever I thought of the Baltimore Orioles, images of on-the-field excellence streamed across my mind. Whenever I thought of the Orioles, I saw visions of Brooks Robinson diving to his right to backhand a two-hopper over the third base bag and, firing from his knees, gunning down the runner at first by two steps. Whenever I thought of the Orioles, I thought of Cal Ripkin, Jr., coming up as a rookie in 1982 and, whether hurt or not, taking the field for well over 2,000 consecutive games. Whenever I thought of the Orioles, I saw in my mind an endless stream of 20-game winners, taking the hill in Memorial Stadium year after year.
