The Friends of the Library’s June Garden Tour will be on Saturday, June 3, 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The Library would like to encourage the people from Ardmore and the surrounding area to come out and support the Friends in this fundraiser event for our library. You will be able to see up close some of the local gardens. The places on tour this year are the historic Bryan House Town Hall & Museum, the gardens of Melvin and Linda Lou Foster, Jack and Helen Mathis, Curtis and Shelia Dean, and Earl and Charlotte Green. Tickets can be purchased at the library or from any Friends member. Proceeds from past garden tours have purchased summer reading prizes, bookshelves, and books for the library. The Library would like to thank Terry Hopkins for his program, “Attracting, Nesting, and Feeding Wildlife,” that he had for the Friends on May 10th at 2 p.m. Despite the weather, there were 13 people there to enjoy this informative program. Also, the Library would like to thank Reba Blakely for coming in and sharing Indian history along with making key chains for Story Time’s moms and bracelets for the children during the May 10th Story Time. Last week was the last week for Story Time until August when school starts back. The children will be enjoying a luau this week on Wednesday, May 17, at 10 a.m. The farewell party was held to thank the kids and moms for a wonderful year. Final plans are being made for the Summer Reading Program for children ages 12 and under which will be starting June 21 at 10 a.m. So far there will be a day of exotic animals, a science magic show, and a day of Indian folk history. Sign-ups are already going on at the library now. Due to the overwhelming support of our community this year, a reading program for teenagers is in the works also for this summer. The library is looking at having four Saturdays 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. for the teens to get together for a program and to eat pizza. |
