Dr. Carroll Awarded

Dr. Barry L. Carroll, Superintendent of the Limestone County Schools, was honored by The Capstone Education Society at The University of Alabama on Sunday, May 7. The 2006 College of Education Recognition Dinner was held at the Bryant Conference Center on the Tuscaloosa campus. Dr. Jim McLean, Dean of Education at The University of Alabama presented Dr. Carroll with the Outstanding Contribution to Education Award in the category of Educator Other Than Teacher in recognition of his exemplary contributions to education.

In keeping with its mission to support quality teacher education programs and academic excellence, the Society recognizes two faculty members and three alumni of the College of Education each year. Award recipients receive a plaque, a cash award, and public recognition at the awards presentation. In addition, each recipient’s name is engraved on an award plaque which is permanently displayed in Bibb Graves Hall.

The recipient of each Outstanding Contribution to Education Award must be a graduate of the College of Education at The University of Alabama. Each recipient must show exemplary contributions and evidence of professional achievement and success as a significant participant in the educational process. Society members have an opportunity to nominate an individual for each category of this award. A screening committee selects those nominees in each category who will comprise the slate presented to the Society for its consideration. Members vote for their choice for outstanding contributions in each of the three categories.
