Smith Receives DEKALB
Agriculture Award

Kerry Renee Smith of Elkmont High School was recently presented the school’s highest agricultural honor, the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by Monsanto Company.

Smith is the daughter of Alice Smith and the late Michael Smith. She received the award for excellent in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience. Smith’s significant experiences and accomplishments have included secretary of the Junior Class and FFA Chapter her junior year; president of FFA Chapter her senior year; member of Limestone Land, Forestry, and Small Engines teams.

Randy Blacklidge is Smith’s agricultural education instructor at Elkmont High School.

Over the past 59 years, more than 154,000 high school seniors from across the country have received the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, which has become a symbol for excellence and the school’s highest agricultural honor. In 2005, over 2050 students from 49 of the 50 states were recognized with this award. As the winner of the 2006 award, Kerry Smith’s name will be recorded on a permanent plaque displayed at Elkmont High School. She also received a State degree in agriculture at Auburn University on June 2.
