Coach Sanderson’s Tiger Basketball by Dwight Turner Ardmore High School Head Basketball Coach Mike Sanderson has announced that this year’s Tiger Basketball Camp for Boys will be held next week, beginning Monday, June 19 and running through Thursday, June 22. The Tiger Basketball Camp is a popular summer activity and has gained a reputation as being highly instructive, stressing the fundamentals of the game of basketball, and a positive experience, emphasizing the importance of developing a love for the game as well as teamwork and cooperation. Sanderson states that the goals of the camp are to provide individual instruction in offensive and defensive fundamentals; to help young athletes develop the proper mental attitude toward the game of basketball and to motivate each to begin practicing more at home; and to provide a wholesome atmosphere where young boys can realize the importance of good sportsmanship. Campers will be grouped for instruction and compete by age and ability. According to Sanderson, this will help insure a “success situation” for the beginner as well as the more skilled player. This year’s camp will begin on Monday, June 19 at 9 AM. Daily sessions will run until 1:30 PM. In addition to competition, Thursday, June 22 will feature an Awards Ceremony. The camp, which will be held in the Ardmore High School gym, is open to boys who will be entering third through ninth grades in the fall. Cost of the camp is $50 and includes a t-shirt and an individual award. Each camper needs to have gym shoes, t-shirts, shorts and a basketball to be used in shooting drills and special ball handling drills. Each camper should also furnish his own sack lunch and transportation. For further information, contact Mike Sanderson at (256) 423-4475 or (256) 655-2210. |
