MMC’s Cleary Published
In Coaching Magazine

Martin Methodist College Women’s Soccer Coach Gerry Cleary will have a coaching session published in the upcoming July/August edition of the bi-monthly magazine “World Class Coaching”.

The coaching session, entitled, “Martin Methodist College - A Great Combination and Penetration Session,” will appear among sessions written by U.S. National Soccer Team Assistant Coach Glen “Mooch” Myernick, the Wales U21 National Team coaching staff, and legendary NCAA Division I Coach Barry Gorman of Penn State University.

“I’m just amazed at the opportunity,” said Cleary upon learning of his selection. “Most of the people that get published are national team coaches, assistants in the U.S. Soccer Federation and pro-level coaches. There aren’t many college coaches who have the chance, and when they do, it’s rare that you find someone outside the Top Five NCAA Division I programs.”

Cleary, who was named the 2005 Brine/NAIA Coach of the Year and 2005 NSCAAA/Adidas NAIA National Coach of the Year in January, helped lead his RedHawk team to their best season in program history with a 23-1-1 record last fall, on their way to capturing their second consecutive TranSouth Athletic Conference Championship and first-ever NAIA National Championship.

The championship game gave Cleary his 50th career victory and crowned his 50-11-4 mark over three seasons at Martin.

Vice President of World Class Coaching, Tom Mura, saw Cleary’s team compete for the national title in the fall and called him this spring to offer him the chance to include a coaching session in the magazine.

“His team plays a very attractive style of ball possession, so I knew that he’d have something to add to our magazine,” said Mura. “It also helped attract us to him because the team was very successful and Gerry received a lot of recognition for his work.”
