Sanderson To Run For MayorProject

Tommy Sanderson, a Giles County native, has announced his candidacy for the City of Elkton mayoral office. The election will be held in August 2006.

Born and raised in Giles County, Sanderson is a 1959 graduate of Giles County High School and retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections in 2004. He is active in Veterans organizations in Giles County and served six years as a military policeman. Sanderson is a Viet Nam veteran.

“It’s hard not to be aware of all the growth and prosperity going on all around our small town,” said Sanderson in announcing his candidacy. “Instead of watching it, I feel we need to be a part of it. To do this we must change the way we think and run city government.”

“I am a fiscal conservative and certainly believe in low taxes and service fees for our citizens,” continued Sanderson. “We have a wealth of talent and experience in a wide array of fields within our small city. I will encourage citizen involvement in projects and new ideas for the betterment of Elkton. I would especially like to look into what policies could be pursued to do more for our senior citizens.”

“I can assure the citizens of Elkton that, if elected, no issue will come before the city council under a cloak of secrecy or for a quick vote,” said Sanderson. “I will encourage public scrutiny of all major issues and call for public meetings when needed. I believe in government for the people and by the people. I pledge to work hard to make our small town the very best it can be. Your votes and influence will be greatly appreciated.”
