This week’s Passing Parade is a picture of the Mt. Misery ladies, Mary Sue Koonce and Bess Ventress. Mary Sue Koonce attended Liberty School under Prof. Virgil Haney. Some of the students then were Beulah Locker, Rose and Rossie Corder, Audrey Futch, Howard Gray, Jennie Walker, Lizzie Locker and Pearl Ventress. Mary Sue Koonce worked for Jenkins Studio. Her sister, Bess Ventress, taught school at the Stewart Creek Academy. Some of her students were Clarence Reed, Rachel Land and Floyd Koonce.
Mrs. Bess Ventress was president of the Liberty Mothers Club. Nell Gray Hereford was vice president and Mrs. Oma Gray was the treasurer. She lived to be 101 years old and is buried in Stewart Cemetery.
Morgan Blair Towry visited her grandmother, Brenda Cole, of Murfreesboro recently.
