Elkmont’s Austin Miller Signs Track Scholarship With Northwest Shoals

Elkmont High School’s Austin Miller has signed a track scholarship with Northwest Shoals Community College, after having compiled a brilliant cross-country career for the Red Devils.

The formal signing came at a special ceremony, held at Elkmont High School on Wednesday, June 21.

Miller’s name is a familiar one in Limestone County track circles and beyond. He qualified for and competed at the AHSAA State Meet in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Miller further impressed spectators and competitors alike when he won the Sectional Championship this year, finishing first in the 800 meter, 1600 meter, and 3200 meter runs.

Miller was the first member of the Elkmont Track Team, which was started by Coach Barry Pugh four years ago. According to Pugh, Miller has been a hard worker and, along with other athletes who are now a part of the Elkmont squad, is dedicated to improving his skills.

Miller also excelled off the field of competition. As a student, he was recognized for his leadership skills when he received the 2006 Elkmont Lions Club Leadership Award. In addtion, Miller was the recipient of the 2006 Elkmont Lions Club Scholarship.

Austin is the son of Dale and Gina Miller of Elkmont.
