On July 5 at 10 a.m., The Ardmore Public Library’s 2006 “Jungle Tales” Summer Reading Program will have back for the third year in a row Kevin Kidd and his imaginary friend, Larry. Kevin will entertain the children 12 and under with songs and stories. A free personal pizza coupon from Pizza Inn will be given away to each child that participates in this week’s program. Maalac Steele will open the program with a book reading of the “The little train that could.”

On June 28 the children were able to get involved with “The Mad Scientist,” Rickard Askay. Askay is originally from England and now resides in Pulaski where he plays soccer for Martin College. He entertained the children while educating them about science with a hands-on program. There were 22 children who were able to squeeze into a sphere while the whole group was able to participate in an entertaining and wise lesson on dry ice. They learned how to use dry ice to make smoke, pop tops off of containers, and make foam among other things while never handling without gloves because of the -102 degree temperature.

Kim Owen, a soon to be 4th grade teacher at Blanche, also read to the children while free tickets from Movie Gallery were given away to each child that was present and who participated in last week’s program.

The children need to continue collecting their minutes in their reading logs because there is going to be a lot of competition this year. On July 12 during the final program, prizes will be given out.

The top four readers will have a choice between tickets to The Tennessee Aquarium, Nashville Zoo, Lake Winnepesaukah, or a $25 gift certificate to Books-A-Million, while everyone participating will receive prizes from the Dollar General Market.
