Ardmore Civitan made a $500 donation to Elkwood Village during their Civitan luncheon held Friday, July 21, at Marvin’s Restaurant in Ardmore. Civitan member and Elkwood Village co-founder Bill Brewer and his son, Matt, who is a resident of Elkwood Village, accepted the donation.

Elkwood Village is an assisted living home for mentally challenged adult men. It is located on 100 acres on Elkwood Section Road in Ardmore, AL, donated by Bill and Evelyn Brewer of Ardmore.

The residents live in a peaceful Christian environment and are evaluated as to abilities and needs. They are taught and encouraged to be as independent as possible in managing personal needs, being gainfully employed and interacting with others.

The home is supported by private donations, grants and fund-raising activities. This year a fund-raiser involved a greenhouse and garden constructed by the residents to raise flowers and vegetables both for their use and to sell to the public.

Funds are now being sought to build a second home on the property to provide for mentally challenged females. All contributions are tax deductible.
