Ms. Holt Seeks Elkton Aldermanic Seat

Carolyn K. Holt has announced her candidacy for the office alderman for the City of Elkton. Holt is currently serving the remainder of the term of her late husband, Golden Holt.

“I would like to remind voters that early voting continues through July 29th and Election Day is August 3,” said Holt.

Born and reared in Alabama, Holt is a graduate of Councill Training High School in Normal, AL. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Alabama A & M University. Holt was a science teacher for 14 years and worked at Redstone Arsenal as a data analyst for more than 13 years. Holt has one daughter and six grandchildren, one of whom is deceased. She and her husband, former Vice Mayor Golden Holt, had their dream home built in Elkton in 1998. She is a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL.

“When my husband died February 15, 2005, I was appointed to complete his term through August 2006,” Holt said. “From serving as alderman in my husband’s stead and being appointed chairman of the annexation committee, I’ve learned a lot about the duties of an alderman. I’ve learned how the law and politics work, a lot about the city of Elkton and the people who live here and have lived here.”

Holt says she would like to help Elkton grow and prosper. She believes Elkton needs more street lights and fire hydrants, to repave most of the streets, to bring in new industries and a new fire hall. Citizens should make use of the facilities that are now available in Elkton. Holt also believes the city needs a sewage system that won’t cost millions and some solutions to the flooding problems.

“Since we don’t want to raise taxes, I feel that one of our best sources of funding these services is through obtaining grants on a higher level,” Holt said. “We have gotten a few grants and we are in the process of getting two more. But we must diligently seek and obtain 100% and 95% larger grants. I will do this if I’m elected,” Holt added.

Another resource that Holt thinks should be utilized is the people of Elkton. “The people here have different levels of education, skills and talents. They are of different races, religions, have different jobs, etc. If we combine all of our skills, talents and resources into one giant volunteer pool we, too, can play a major role in the growth and prosperity of Elkton,” she added.

She expressed her thanks to the citizens of Elkton for the opportunity to serve as alderman, filling the remainder of her husband’s term. Holt also expressed her appreciation for the chance to be a part of a council that is trying to make Elkton a better place to live and work.

“I would appreciate your vote and support for me as I seek the office of Alderman in the City of Elkton for the next four years,” Holt concluded.
