Back-to-school shoppers in Alabama and Tennessee will have a chance to take advantage of the first sales tax holiday on August 4-6. Families will have an opportunity to purchase clothes, computers, school supplies and books during this time without paying state sales tax.

Supplies To Cedar Hill Elementary
The Ardmore Police Reserves and Ardmore Civitan recently completed a School Supply Drive for Cedar Hill Elementary School. Many items were collected for distribution to Cedar Hill Elementary students who need them for the 2006-2007 school year.

Athens-Limestone Hospital’s Philip Dotson Receives Award
Philip E. Dotson, CHE, CEO of Athens-Limestone Hospital, Athens, was given the Regent’s Award for the Senior Healthcare Executive at the American College of Healthcare Executives’ breakfast. The breakfast was held in conjunction with the Alabama Hospital Association’s Annual meeting in June.

AHS Band Car Wash Saturday
The Ardmore High School Band will hold a Pledge Car Wash Saturday, August 5. Band students will be washing cars and several locations in Ardmore and Athens.

Ardmore Rodeo Pageant August 5
The 14th Annual Ardmore Police Reserves Rodeo Queen and Cowboy Pageant will be held Saturday, August 5, at the City of Ardmore, TN City Hall Annex.

King’s Kids Soccer Sign-Ups Next Two Saturdays
Sign-ups for King’s Kids Soccer at First Baptist Church, Ardmore will be held the next two Saturdays. All children ages three through 14 (as of July 1, 2006) may sign up on Saturday, August 5 or Saturday, August 12, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. each day in the church fellowship hall.

Blanche Gridiron Club Holds Fundraiser
Members of the Blanche Gridiron Club will be giving away three Bluetick Hound puppies at three home football games this fall. One puppy will be given away on August 22, one on September 7, and one on October 9.

Area Softball Team Scorpion Fire Places
5th In World Series Tournament
The 16U Tennessee Scorpion Fire Fastpitch Softball Team recently returned from participating in the “B” World Series Tournament held July 10-15, 2006, in Panama City Beach, FL. The Tennessee Scorpion Fire team includes five girls from Giles County High School, five girls from Richland High School and one girl from Hixson High School. The team finished fifth in the 2006 World Series tournament.

Ardmore Booster Club Football Sign-ups Saturday
Youth too young to play school sports but who would like to participate in organized football this fall must sign-up no later than Saturday, August 5, at 12:30 p.m. in Athens, AL.
