Schools Are Back In Session This Week

School bells ring again this week as the 2006-2007 school year begins.

Giles County students were the first to return to classes with a half-day on Tuesday, August 1 and the first full day on Wednesday, August 2. Students in Lincoln County will attend classes for half day on Thursday, August 3. They will be out on Friday and return for a full day of classes on Monday, August 7. Madison County students will begin the year with a full day on Thursday, August 3. Limestone County students will be the last to begin the 2006-2007 school year on Friday, August 4 with a full day of classes.

Sales tax holidays have been set aside for those buying school supplies, clothing, computers and books for students on August 4, 5 and 6 in both Alabama and Tennessee. Several items have been exempted from sales tax on these days. Check each state for the specific details.

As the students return to school, drivers are reminded to drive carefully and slow down in school zones. Also be aware of children getting on and off of school buses and always stop for school buses.
