Area Voters Go To The Polls
Giles County General Sessions Judge John P. Damron was re-elected to the post by defeating three opponents. Former General Sessions Judge Robert E. Lee Jr. proved to be the closest competition for Damron. The total votes were Damron 2,636, Lee 2,194, followed by Kim Tycer with 1,247 and Shara Flacy, former 22nd Judicial District Public Attorney with 676. Register of Deeds Kay Gibbons was re-elected to a second term defeating former register Sandy Ralston. Gibbons netted 4,076 votes while Ralston received 2,574. Giles County’s Eddie Bass defeated Lee Bussart Bowles to become the Democratic candidate for the 65th District Tennessee House of Representative seat. Bass will challenge Republican candidate Jim Moon of Marshall County for the district seat. Voters re-elected two of three Giles County Commissioners in District 1. Incumbents Ramona Flacy and Alfred “Chan” Harris will be joined by newcomer Wendell Wilburn. Wilburn received the majority of votes with 303 while Flacy received 292 and Harris netted 279 edging out Andy Shaver by only four votes. In the recent Limestone County run-off election held in July, Henry A. White defeated Anita Raby in the race for State Representative, District No. 5. White received a total of 2,160 votes while 1,667 citizens cast their votes for Raby. Gary Daly defeated incumbent Tommy Raby Jr.for the Limestone County Commission, District 1 position. A total of 1,122 voters chose Daly while Raby received 871 votes. |
