Fred’s Employee Reunion To Celebrate Store’s 30th Anniversary

All current and former employees of the Fred’s Discount Store in Ardmore are invited to a Fred’s Employee Reunion in honor of the store’s 30th anniversary. The reunion will be held Sunday, August 27, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the First National Bank Community Room in Ardmore.

“We would like to encourage all current and former employees to come and enjoy a day of fellowship and reminiscing,” said Store Manager Bill Anderson.

Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish for a potluck luncheon. Door prizes will be given away during the afternoon.

Fred’s Discount Store, originally known as Vick’s, began stocking their building in August of 1976 in the L&S Shopping Center. The store opened for business in October 1976. Manager Bill Anderson and employee Linda Faulk have been there since the beginning. Fred’s offers a variety of items including household items, cleaning supplies, health and beauty aids, toys, gardening items, automotive products, pet products, school supplies, food items, greeting cards and much more.

In 1979, the Payless Pharmacy opened inside Fred’s with Charles Hall as the first pharmacist on duty. Current pharmacists are Jason Murph and Annie Allen.

A Radio Shack department was added to the store in 1998. Radio Shack offers a variety of electronic items, Cingular cellular service and DirecTV service.

Fred’s is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 5.

“We look forward to our reunion Sunday,” said Anderson.
