I am back! I was so awfully sick. A blood clot went through my body and tore the places it touched. I have been bleeding from the path it took. Gosh! That really did hurt! We were so sorry to hear of the death of Charles Henderson. He was in my algebra class under Jim Farrar and made the highest grade of all of us. Alice McKay was the prettiest girl in our algebra class. The first time I saw Charles Henderson was at the Big Meeting at Liberty Church of Christ. Later he was with us a lot of time. We were R.K. Locker, Frankie Locker, Jack Locker, Leland Gray, Loyd and Floyd Raby and myself. We would go swimming in Stewart Creek and one time we had a cob battle in the Frank Locker barn. Those were good times. Charles Henderson was related to R.K. Locker on the Ventress side. Alice Ventress married Rufus K. Locker. Charles was a good boy and he could remember being at the fairgrounds when that awful plane crash killed so many people. Another death was Dewey Colbert. He played music at the Womack Reunion and they played my favorite “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain”. He was descended from Mary Locker and a relative of mine. Sympathy to Tana Colbert at this sad hour. Death came to Nell Johnson. They once had an election at the McGee-Koonce Cemetery. Bob Johnson was elected president. Bob Allen Gray was elected vice-president; Nell Johnson, secretary; and Vivian Oldham, treasurer. However, we did not get to serve. The owner of the land would not give us permission. Now it has been cleared off. Linda Huff serves as president of this beloved cemetery. Have you seen the Philip Koonce Market? I did not get to go to the 40th anniversary of Stan Jean and Linda Brooks wedding. I was so sick then and still my health is too bad for fun or to go places. They were a beautiful couple and we wish them many happy years. All of my Gray people loved the Elzie Brooks family. Good wishes to Carole Bouldin. We pray for Kenneth McBay who is very ill. |
