The fiscal year of the library ended the last of June and since that time I have been organizing and preparing reports for the State of Tennessee. While doing the reports, I often reminisce on the activities and accomplishments of the library. The Library will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next April. I remember coming to the library when it was a small library on the back of the current building that it is now in. I didn't actually start working at the library until May 1995. The library had been in the full-east side of the City Hall about three years at that time. About five years ago, the library again acquired additional footage. Over the last ten years, the biggest library changes are in the figures. Giles County has increased their allowance to the library by $787 while the city and town's contributions have more than tripled. The library materials have increased by 10,758 items, which are 5.34 % materials per capital. Library patrons have doubled with half of the patrons being from Limestone County. Out of the libraries in the Blue Grass Regional Library, which of the 26 libraries 9 are county libraries, Ardmore is 15th from the top in square feet, 15th in size of collection, and 11th in circulation with Brentwood (non-county) holding the number one slot. Sometimes it seems like the Ardmore Public Library is the little library that could. It has survived and it will continue to survive with the support that it gets from its contributors and the community. Thanks again Ardmore for making the Ardmore Public Library what it is today. Schedule of Events: Monday Nights (5p.m.)-- Chess Night in the Library's Reading Room with Maalac Steele. Wednesday Mornings (10a.m.)--Story Time for preschoolers. September 20-Becky Smith. September 27--Kim and Amanda from the Blue Grass Regional Office "When Autumn Falls." Note: We would like to thank Shirley, Jim and others at the Dollar General Market for their recent donation of books and copying paper. |
