Elkmont Mistakes Costly Chance Newby scored two touchdowns and John Schrimsher kicked a pair of extra points but it was not enough as the Golden Bears of Lexington defeated the Elkmont Red Devils 22-14. The Red Devils hurt their chances by missing a field goal, throwing an interception and missing a snap in the end zone for a safety. The Golden Bears made some defensive adjustment during the mid-game break and limited Elmont to just 34 rushing yards in the second half. The visitors got the early lead when Jeremy Beavers scored on a 25-yard run the first play of the second quarter. Elkmont got their only lead on a 4-yard run from Newby and a point-after kick from Schrimsher four minutes before the first half ended. The lead changed hands again when Lexington got a safety as the Red Devils snapped the football into the end zone. Lexington scored twice before the Red Devils could get back on the scoreboard. Ryan Toner accounted for both of those six-pointers. First, on a 6-yard carry with 1:48 left in the third and then with a 4-yard with 10:39 left. Tyler Pigg kicked the extra-point after each touchdowns. Newby scored on a 29-yard run and Schrimsher provided the point-after for the Red Devils.
