Cecil Allen Bell

Cecil Allen Bell, 97, of Toney, died Tuesday, September 19,, 2006, at Crestwood Hospital, Huntsville, AL.

Graveside services were held Thursday, September 21, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, AL, with Rev. Wheeler Kidd officiating. Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born and raised in the Gurley community and has lived in the Toney area since the 1940’s. He was a concrete/brick mason and a security guard until retirement. He farmed and raised cattle for many years in the area. He truly enjoyed his fishing, hunting and all his critters.

Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Nelson Bell, son, Cecil Harold “Tooter” Bell; sisters, Myrtle Ikard, Frances Smith, Margaret Rutledge, Mary “Willie” Petty; brothers, Emmett “Son” Bell, Gordon “Buddy” Bell and very special friend, Gerda Adkins.

He is survived by daughter, Bonnie Bell and son, Billy Bell of Toney, son J. R. Bell of Arab. He was “Nandaddy” to his grandchildren; Donna Quillin and her husband, Rodney, of Toney; Cindy Perkins and her husband, Ricky, of Arab and Allen Bell of Tampa, Florida; great grandchildren, Daniel Quillin of Toney; Brandon Landreth and Michelle Landreth of Arab; and one sister, Evelyn Harrison of Gurley.


Novella Hillis

Novella Hillis, 73, of Hollands Gin Road, Elkmont, AL, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation for Ardmore.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Willie Earl officiating. Burial was in the Sylone Cemetery in Elkmont with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Novella was born March 14, 1933, in Athens, AL, to Ban Brock and Alma Hogan Brock. She lived all her life in the Hollands Gin area. She was a member of Boyd’s Chapel Methodist Church and was preceded in death by husbands, Clarence Eaves and Zeno Hillis.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Jo Campbell and Debbie Roberts both of Elkmont, AL; four grandchildren, Christy Frame of Ardmore, AL, Joann Hall of Athens, AL, Allison Roberts of Elkmont, AL, and Nick Roberts of Elkmont, AL; five great-grandchildren, Ty Cade and Seth Frame of Ardmore, AL, and Dylan and Zach Hall of Athens, AL.


Robert Sullivan

Robert Sullivan, 83, of Prospect, TN, died Friday, September 22, 2006, at his home.

A memorial service was held at his home.

Robert Randall Sullivan was born September 17, 1923 in Chicago, IL, to Charles Sullivan and Cecilia (Unk) Sullivan. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a veteran of the Navy and worked as a commercial plumbing supervisor.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy J. Sullivan; children, Mike Sullivan, Randy Sullivan, pat Sullivan, Geraldine Stokes, Danny Sullivan, Brenda Belz, Bobbie Jo Sullivan, Billie Jo Lawson, and P.J. Callahan; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.


Lester Joseph Cross

Lester Joseph Cross, 75, of Main Street, Ardmore, TN, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at Hillside Hospital, Pulaski, TN.

A private funeral service was held.

Lester Joseph Cross was born November 5, 1930 in Ardmore, (Lincoln County), TN, to Willie Cross and Clara Jones Cross. He lived all his life in the Ardmore area.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Nell Cross of Ardmore, TN; one son, Robinette John Cross of Nashville, TN; one brother, James Thomas “Buddy” Cross of Sewanee, TN; and one sister, Katherine Woodfin of Prospect, TN.
