Red Devils In Thick Of Region Race

The Elkmont Red Devils kept in contention of a playoff berth Friday with a 23-13 win over the visiting Lauderdale County Tigers.

The Red Devils reeled off 10-unanswered points in the opening quarter before having to stave off a come-from-behind bid by the visitors.

Lee Patterson scored on a 2-yard run that was set up by David Solomon’s fumble recovery. Brandon Solomon kicked the extra point. John Schrimsher’s 24-yard field goal completed the first quarter scoring.

The Red Devils gave a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter to trail 13-12.

Chance Newby and Tim Woolridge each scored in the fourth. Woolridge’s score came on a 50-yard fumble return.

It doesn’t get any easier this week as the Red Devils host the Wildcats from Colbert Heights. Like the Red Devils and Sheffield Bulldogs, the Wildcats own a 3-1 region record. All three teams are tied for third in that race.
